OUT OF DARKNESS

The Project

Cinematographer, director, and editor for Out of Darkness, a 1:33 cinematic opener that launched Easter services across three Sunday morning gatherings at Sagemont Church.

The creative concept was built around a single, bold production element — a 12-foot LED wall serving as the sole light source in the sanctuary. The wall animated an architectural doorway opening to reveal luminous white light, with a timelapse of clouds creating dynamic shifts in intensity as the camera revealed actors emerging from complete darkness. The theological narrative moved from concealment to revelation: as Christ Collins' voiceover articulated the journey from separation to reunion with God through Christ's sacrifice, each actor was progressively illuminated, bewildered by seeing light for the first time. Their physical interactions with the doorway — confusion, awe, hesitation, finally stepping through — carried the visual weight of the Gospel message.

The video climaxed as the actors moved through the lit doorway, transitioning into a white bloom that washed all sanctuary screens as the band and choir launched into "House of the Lord" by Phil Wickham. The production dissolved the boundary between video and live worship, making the opening sequence feel not like a media moment but like a unified act of storytelling and praise.

Conceived and directed as a complete production vision, the video was shot with original footage, edited in Final Cut Pro X, and integrated with motion graphics and a carefully orchestrated service moment.
